I love it when two people who are so perfect for one another fall in love and decide to spend the rest of their lives together. Jon, Brittany & Eli :: Biltmore Estate Family Portrait Session

Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC

Earlier this year, I was asked if I'd be willing to donate a silent auction item for the 4th annual Under the Stars fundraiser to support the Asheville Museum of Science. I'm so glad that I did. Otherwise, I may not have had the opportunity to meet this absolutely adorable family. Jon and his wife, Brittany, were adamant that they were not going to let the photo session that I had donated slip past them! We had such a great time during their session on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate. And their son -- oh my goodness -- just look at that cuteness!

Zoe + Ben :: Downtown Asheville Wedding

The Century Room, Asheville, NC

When Ben, a friend and fellow photographer, asked me to photograph his wedding I said, "yes, absolutely yes!" Zoe and Ben -- best friends, adventurers and lovebirds -- created a wedding day full of beautiful memories. I couldn't have been more honored to be a part of their special day! Here are a few of my favorite moments.

Gina + Kenton :: Engagement Session in Historic Downtown Durham

Brightleaf Square & American Tobacco Campus, Durham, NC

Kenton and Gina met at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and after many adventures including living in separate cities, surviving grad school, adopting two cats, buying a house, and raising a crazy puppy, they finally decided to tie the knot!

Since they've been together for so long, the engagement came as a surprise to no one. However, Kenton is a total romantic and insisted on a surprise proposal -- despite the fact that he let Gina pick her own ring. After enlisting one of Gina’s friends to come up with an excuse to get her to Chapel Hill, Kenton popped the question at sunset on a beautiful fall evening in front of Gina’s favorite library on UNC’s campus. As she said, “yes!” a group of young girls watching from a blanket on the campus quad cheered for both the couple and for UNC’s football team, as they kicked a winning field goal in a tie game. Kenton swears he planned this, but Gina is still skeptical.

While UNC’s history is what drew her to the school, and the reason Kenton proposed there, the couple chose to take their engagement photos in the middle of downtown Durham instead, among all of the old tobacco warehouses. Durham is their home and Kenton’s hometown, and he loves listening to Gina talk about its buildings and its history. They’re getting married next fall in a 1930’s auto garage turned music venue in the heart of Durham, and couldn’t be more excited!

Ashley & Kyle :: Married

Butler Chapel, Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC
& Bentwinds Country Club, Fuquay-Varina, NC

Ashley and Kyle both attended Campbell University and obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Although they were both students at Campbell at the same time, 2007-2008 -- and knew some of the same people -- their paths wouldn’t cross until 2014.

They had both decided to try their luck on Internet dating sites. After many failed dates they finally found each other on Plenty of Fish in September 2014. Ashley had “swiped” that she liked Kyle (even though she has no recollection of this). Kyle saw she was interested in him and after looking at her profile decided to take a chance and messaged her.

Ashley was immediately intrigued by "Mr. Campbell University," as her mother initially referred to him. The two of them began texting each other, which quickly led to talking on the phone. They went on their first date a week later.

On their first date, Kyle showed up to Ashley’s house and instantly impressed her. She was especially caught off guard by Kyle opening the car door for her -- something no other guy had ever done for her. He still opens the car door for her to this day. Kyle and Ashley have practically been by each others sides since that first date.

Returning to their alma mater, Ashley and Kyle were married at Butler Chapel at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. Touches of Campbell University school colors, orange and black, could be seen throughout the day. A reception followed at Bentwinds Country Club in nearby Fuquay Varina, NC.

Kyle & Nathan :: Wedding Day in Durham

Pilgrim United Church of Christ & The Rickhouse, Durham, NC

When Kyle met met Nathan, he thought we were just going to be friends. From the beginning, the two were almost inseparable and developed a strong bond. As time went on, they began to realize that there was more than friendship between them. Their strong bond and knack for finishing each others sentences or saying the exact same thing at the exact same time made it clear to Kyle that he was marrying his best friend.

Nathan found his perfect complement in Kyle -- so alike, yet very different in many ways. When they first met, Nathan admits it was at a time when he was planning on living the single life. It took only a few days for Nathan to realize though that he didn't want to be single when he could have Kyle in his life. They make each others days brighter.

Kyle and Nathan were married in Durham, NC, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ. Following the church service, their family and friends joined them for a reception at The Rickhouse -- a gorgeous renovated tobacco warehouse that doubles as both an event space and spirits distillery. The Rickhouse provided the feel of contemporary Durham and was exactly what they were looking for!
